Network Security PDF Print E-mail
computer security Network security is a vital subject; a few decades ago it was important only for only big companies. Lately, as more and more people are using the Internet, they need to understand the most important elements of security in a networked world. They must understand that there are many risks; they also must find out how to deal with them. This is intended to be a "frequently asked questions'' reference. The reader will have a wider perspective on network security in general, and better understand how to reduce and manage risk potential, at home, and in the workplace.  Computer security is the process of preventing and detecting intruders (unauthorized users) of your network. Prevention aspect uses a set of measures that helps you to avoid intruders from accessing your network. Detection, maybe the most important part of the security process, this helps you to find out whether or not unauthorized users have attempted to break into your network. You must be able to determine if they were successful, and what they have already have done. You may not consider your information a secret, but you probably do not want intruders reading your emails, or examining your financial statements stored on your computer.  Intruders are also referred to as crackers, hackers, or attackers. Sometimes they may not care about stealing identity because they want to gain control of your computer. Why?  So they can use it to launch perverse attacks on other networks. This is a way to hide their true identity and location. Their attacks are often against financial systems, or high profile networks. You must always be very careful because your computer or network at any time may be very good target. Frequent attacks on your computer can cause irreparable damages, such as reformatting the hard disk or simply make important changes to your data. What can you do to protect yourself from these attacks? Protect yourself with good antivirus software and a good firewall.  A firewall is "a system or group of systems that enforces an access control policy between two networks." Enterprise level firewalls divide your network into smaller sub networks or subnets and allow you to define access policies between the subnetsMane firewalls designed for home use are delivered with preconfigured security policies. The user can choose the most appropriate policies for his specific needs. There is also a large selection of antivirus software packages that operate in many ways. All antivirus software is common in that they all look for patterns in the memory of your computer, and in all your files.  It is important to keep virus software up to date.  On average there are two new viruses released a day.  So that your computer stays protected, you must update your virus software.

What is Virtual I.T?

After several years working in the IT environment, we began noticing two major trends: small businesses with the same IT needs as their larger counter-parts, but having none of the resources, and businesses with IT departments, but no program management to ensure technology was being used to the greatest advantage. Lefcakis Consulting, LLC was established to fill the gap.

Providing full technical solutions to businesses, including the ability to connect IT strategy to business goals, Lefcakis Consulting, LLC. provides services often overlooked by traditional IT consulting companies.

Governed by the principle that strong business relationships are the key to success; we promise a single primary contact. Unlike companies that operate with a rotating pool of technicians, your main contact will be there every step of the way—working to know your staff, understanding your work environment, to learn your wants and needs, and determine a plan to achieve your goals.
